christmas

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

Well, I hope everyone had a good holiday. Mike and I had a very nice visit back in Lafayette. I was kind of weird though, not having a 'home' there. We both started to miss Hannibal, which I guess means we're both enjoying Missouri life. We got to see almost everyone we wanted. It seemed like we were always going to see someone or doing something. We were out late a couple nights, and I just haven't caught up on that sleep yet, so we will see if I make it to watch the ball drop tonight.

The most exciting thing that happened while we were home was my sister got engaged!! I'm very jealous that her proposal happened on a beach at sunset in Australia. :) Everyone is really excited, I just wish I could see her to give her and Jeff a big hug. They haven't set a date yet, but they are still on vacation right now, and they don't really know when they will move back from Australia.

Mike and my New Years Eve plans are quite smaller this year than years past. We are staying home just the two of us and having appetizers and margaritas. YUM-O! We are actually excited it's a low key night, plus we have to be at the off roading park at 9 a.m. the next morning. This is the first time I'm going with Mike but I'm sure we'll have a blast. They're having a scavenger hunt out in the woods where you can win tires, wenches, and even a 4-door jeep wrangler! Wish Us Luck! There is also a hog roast, which I am very excited about.

merry christmas eve eve

Monday, December 22, 2008

When I was little, I always told my mom Merry Christmas Eve Eve. I wonder if anyone else ever did this?

I can't believe Christmas is in 2 days. It seems like this year was about a month long. Then again it feels like a lifetime. So many changes have happened this year, but I feel my life if better because of them. Mike is actually excited about Christmas this year. I think it has to do with seeing his friends as well. I wonder how much I will see my husband on our trip to Indiana. :)

I'm excited to see everyone as well, a lot of them I haven't seen since the wedding. I hope we get to spend enough time with everyone.

Well, there's a lot to do in the Fleischhauer house in the next couple days. I have most of my presents still coming, they are supposed to arrive today. I pray they come, because I don't know what we are going to do if not. Once the presents arrive, wrapping will commence. I also have some laundry to do before we can leave, which is turning into a never ending battle.

tonight and tomorrow

Friday, December 19, 2008

Mike and I have been invited to a party that one of his coworkers is having. We aren't really that into it, because it's a younger guy who is a fisheries intern and we don't know what kind of party it is. I don't know how many couples will be there or if it will be a "college" party. I want to go, be social and maybe make a friend. Mike said we probably won't stay very long if we do end up going, which tells me he's really just going because it's someone from work.

Tomorrow we're going to Quincy to finish up our Christmas shopping and have BW3s. :) We haven't had it since we moved. I think that's the restaurant Mike misses most. One of our first times being around each other was at the West Lafayette BW3s. We went there with all his friends and my old roommate, and Mike and I were playing the electronic game together. We were in our own little bubble it seemed. It was probably the first time we had a conversation, just the two of us. Since then, we always play the game together and it takes me back to that night.

Tomorrow is our 3 month anniversary! I know it's kind of silly to keep track, but it's still a new thing to me. We aren't doing anything special for it, just spending the day together, which is fine by me.

'tis the season for four wheel drive and kitchen aids

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

Yesterday Hannibal got about 2 to 3 inches of snow during the day. Of course it had to snow on the day I needed to go to the grocery. I am so thankful for having my 4 wheel drive Explorer this winter. Everyone knew I needed a new car, my Cavalier just wasn't cutting it anymore. This was the first snow to test out the 4 wheel drive (not to mention heated seats) and it is awesome, no slipping and sliding here!

I also did a bit of baking yesterday. I made Mike his pumpkin roll. One of our friends used to make it for him, but since we moved, I full filled his annual intake. :)

Mike needs to take something to work for his regional meeting on Monday, so I made a second on that is in the fridge. Hopefully it will make it to the meeting... I'm hoping to make some Christmas sugar cookies, since I got cookie cutters for a wedding gift.

christmas surprise??

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Right before dinner last night, Mike was getting all the ordering done for my Christmas present. So when we were sitting there eating, I asked if he had actually ordered it. He said no, he has some figuring to do. I was really confused at that point. Then, he asks me if I like plain colors or a design. That's a really hard question to answer, because I had no idea what I was picking out. So he asks me, " well, what would you rather wear?" I finally said a design, still not knowing what he was talking about. During dinner, I just kept thinking about it and decided he was getting me a helmet for his Harley. So after dinner while we were cleaning up, he goes "you know what it is, don't you?" I said "no", because I really didn't, I just had a guess in my head. Well, we kinda went back and forth about it and then he wanted me to just tell him what I thought it was. I said "no", because I didn't want to ruin Christmas and I could be wrong. Then he just blurts out "You know I'm getting you a bowling ball". I just started to laugh. He was very confused at this point, but then I finally calmed myself down and told him my guess was a helmet. He was pretty upset with himself for ruining the surprise. I do feel bad that he could of just not said anything and I would of been surprised.

I don't think I'm still getting a bowling ball, so now I have no idea.

weekend

Monday, December 15, 2008

I was so glad Mike got out of training a couple hours early on Friday, so he made it home at a decent hour. I actually was able to make him a nice welcome home dinner.

Saturday way pretty uneventful, but it was nice. We we able to have a nice relaxing day together after not seeing each other for 5 days. I know that doesn't sound very long, but I got to thinking about it and that was the longest we hadn't seen each other since May 2005. We had only been dating about 6 months and Mike had a summer course in the U.P. of Michigan for 5 weeks. Anyway, I guess I better just get use to him being gone for a while. :/

Sunday, I clean the house a bit. We played some darts at home, which we haven't done since we've moved. It was really fun! I beat Mike twice too! I don't think I have ever won a game of darts against him, he said it was because he hadn't played in a while; I think it was just luck! We went out to lunch with his Aunt and Uncle who have a cabin right outside Hannibal. It was nice to see them, and we got to try a restaurant we hadn't been to before. It's called Fidddlesticks. It looks like a chain restaurant, but I had never heard of it before I moved here. I would say it's a cross between Bob Evans and Applebee's. I know that's a strange combo, but it was pretty good.

Well, today I need to do all Mike's laundry from his trip (I was holding off as long as I could), and finish up some online Christmas shopping! Have a good Monday!

job hunting

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Since Mike and I picked up our lives from Lafayette to Hannibal, I had to quit my job. This is the first time I've not had a job since I started working at 15. At first I was excited, finally getting out of retail and being able to unpack our new home properly. But now, a month and a half later, I'm ready for a job! I did have one interview right before Thanksgiving, but I didn't get it. And since then I haven't seen any job openings in the clerical field. UGH!

Well, tonight I found two jobs that I possibly could do. One is a Teacher's Aid at the school I already interviewed with, so I'm kind of nervous about that one. The second is a receptionist at a radio station in Quincy, Illinois. I've been trying not to look in Quincy, since it is out of state, but it's only a 20 minute drive. Hopefully one of these works, because come January, Mike is gone 3 weeks a month until April, and I can't deal with that staying home all by myself with nothing to do.

thank you cards

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

So I have been a bad bride, it took me 2 & 1/2 months to get my wedding thank you cards done. I just finished my last "phase" of them tonight, which excites me to no end! I hated having them over my head. So if you're reading this and haven't received a thank you card yet, I'm sorry but you'll get one soon. :D

But for my defense, we have had a lot of changes in these last 2 & 1/2 months; getting married, the honeymoon in Ireland, packing, moving, unpacking, getting settled, etc. So now I'm working on my Christmas cards and Christmas $hopping!

tools

Monday, December 8, 2008

On the Sunday night before Thanksgiving, some tools were stolen out of Mike's truck tool box. We called our insurance company and our renters insurance did cover it. So we went to the police station to file the report so we could get reimbursed for it. We didn't really think we would here back from them. WRONG! Yesterday afternoon, Mike got a call from the police. They said they knew who took the tools, but they just haven't found them yet. He then got a second call (while on his way to fire training) from the police telling him they got the two brothers who had stolen the tools; the brothers told the police they took the tools to a pawn shop in town. The police were going to the pawn shop today to see if they're still there. I guess the two brothers had stolen a lot lately and so us reporting the tools actually helped the police get them.

It amazes me that they actually caught the people. You never here of little things that were stolen being found. I guess that is one good thing about living in a small town, everyone knows everything going on. So hopefully we get them back soon!

fire training

Sunday, December 7, 2008

Mike left this afternoon for a week of fire training. The training is down in the boot heel of Missouri, which is about a 5 hour drive from us. Once he gets through this training, he'll beable to go out west and help with the forest fires. I'm not too thrilled with this, but he has assured me he wouldn't be doing anything too dangerous. Plus, he gets a pretty big bonus for helping out west. I do wonder if he will ever be asked to go, and when that happens, it will be scary. He's all for it and actually excited. As soon as he found out about the option to firefight in the forests, he signed up for the training. It's definitely going to be a long week without him, but hopefully I'll get a lot done.

The christmas party went well. I got to meet all of Mike's coworkers, it was nice to finally match the faces to all the stories I've heard. I met one girl I think I hit it off with, she's the wife of a fisheries guy. They left the party early, so we didn't get to talk as much as I would of liked. There's also a younger secretary that seemed really nice.

work christmas party

Saturday, December 6, 2008

Mike and I are going to his work christmas party tonight. I'm actually kind of nervous, because I haven't met any of them before. I'm hoping things go well, and we can find a couple to maybe befriend. It would really be nice to start having friends here. Mike gets to talk to different people everyday; I on the other hand, get to talk to him and then people back home on the phone or online. I know this will all change once I get a job.
