interview

Thursday, April 30, 2009

I haven't really been happy at work lately. :/ The sad thing about this is that I'm not the only one. I really like the actually company, it's just the way this particular store is ran....I think. They've even started to reduce my hours pretty drastically. So with both of those reason in hand, I've decided to start looking for a new job.

I actually have an interview tomorrow at a bank. I really don't want to get my hopes up, but in reality, they are already so high, I'm almost bursting. I want this job sooo bad. It would allow be to be off on weekends (except for some Saturday mornings, of course) and evenings. Both of these mean the world to me. It would allow Mike and I to go away for more weekends this summer, which is what we really want to do. So please keep me in your thoughts tomorrow.

as old as a box of candles

Yesterday was my birthday. I'm glad my family was able to spend it with me, since Mike is in training this week. So for my birthday I decided to show them downtown Hannibal. There are quite a few little shops and we can walk along the Mississippi River. And of course, we had to do some touristy stuff like stop by Mark Twain's boyhood home and check out all the statues there.

We went out to dinner at The Brick Oven. I've wanted to go there since we moved here, and just haven't had the chance. It's an Italian restaurant that cooks in a wood burning brick oven, hence the name. :) Everyone else had pasta, but I wanted to try their brick oven baked pizza. Oh so good! We then came back to the house for cake and ice cream where I learned that this is the last year I can buy ONE box of birthday candles. There are only 24 candles in a box, so next year we will have to buy two. This is just one more thing that made me feel old this month.

family visit

Monday, April 27, 2009

My family is coming for a visit this week! They are arriving tomorrow night. My sister is back in the states from living in Australia for a year and I haven't seen her since my wedding. I'm glad she's able to make the trip out with my parents, since she hasn't been out to Missouri yet. My parents have been out to visit twice, they helped move us and then Thanksgiving. But both times the didn't really get to do anything, so it'll be nice to just show them the town. I'm just looking forward to spending a fun and relaxing time with them.

handy man

Friday, April 24, 2009

Mike came home last night and fixed my sewing machine in like 5 minutes. I love having a handy husband! It's funny how he can completely fix something so quickly, when I "worked" on it for about 45 minutes and got no where.

All laid out, ready to be sewn.

Since he fixed it, I was able to finish the top of my table runner. I'm hoping to go to the quilt store this weekend and get the backing and edging. I know I probably should of bought this before, but I'll just take the topper in with me and see what looks good.

Finished, just ready to be quilted.

sewing gone wrong...

Thursday, April 23, 2009

I have the day off work, and even though it's a gorgeous day out, I wanted to be inside sewing. I started my table runner I talked about a couple posts ago. It was going very well for about 2 hours, and then it happened....my sewing machine broke! Okay, okay, it didn't really break, the needle just won't move for me at the moment. I spent about a half hour trying to fix it, got really frustrated and walked away. I'm waiting on Mike to get home to fix it. Mike is really good with the sewing machine, actually he's a lot better than me. He always has to help me thread a new bobbin, because I always forget how. Hopefully he fixes it quickly so I can finish the top of the runner this evening. Until then, I'm patiently waiting.... :)

diners, drive-ins and dives

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

On Monday, while we were driving home from Indiana, we stopped for lunch. Not just an ordinary place....no, it was a restaurant that was on the food networks Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show. It's Charlie Parker's Diner in Springfield, IL. I've been wanting to go to this place ever since we moved to Missouri. Springfield is pretty close to being halfway between us and Lafayette, so it just seemed fitting. Mike had the special, which was a pork tenderloin, mash potatoes, green beans. I had the french dip. We tried each others food, and everything was delicious!

ashley's bridal shower weekend

Monday, April 20, 2009

We are back home from our weekend in Lafayette. It was really nice to see everyone we got to see. As I predicted, we didn't get to see everyone and didn't get to spend enough time with everyone we got to see. We stayed at our friends, Matt and Katie's, which worked out really well, because Matt is who Mike wanted to spend most of his time with.

Our weekend started off with breakfast with Mike's family. I was really nice to just go to Mike's mom's house and have a relaxing morning. After breakfast, Mike went to help his sister move, and Reena and I got a quick trip to the quilt store in. I've been wanting to make a spring-like table runner and this was the perfect time to find the fabric.

Isn't this perfect for spring?!?!

My favorite!

After the fabric store, I went to my friend Ashley's bridal shower. I was really excited for a few reasons. First, I got to see Ashley, Marlene and Brooke. Second, it was a bridal shower. Third, it's my first shower after my shower. I'm still very excited about all things bride/wedding.

She's opening my present!

Brooke, Ashley(the bride!), Marlene, and me

After the shower, I got to hang out with the girls some more, which was great. But the real exciting part is I got to see Squirt and Johnnie, Marlene's cats. Well, they were mine too, but when I got married and moved away, we decided they would stay with Mar. I miss them so much. I had such a good time with the girls! I'm so glad I got to see them for as long as I did.

Sunday was a pretty lazy day. Mike spent the day with his friends having a good time on the Four Wheeler's. I got to hang out with my friend Katie and her son Braden. He's 2 years old and getting so big. I can't believe how big he has got just from January. But I guess that's what kids do. We spent Sunday evening hanging out with my parents. It was nice to just relax and chat with them.

already behind schedule

Friday, April 17, 2009

So...we were supposed to leave for Lafayette today at 4:30 (central time). I got a call from Mike, and he was an hour and a half away from here about an hour ago. (Does that make sense?)

Today at Mike's work, they did a controlled burn to teach everyone about fire. That's why he's late. We are now shooting to leave at 6:00 pm. The bad thing is, is this lands us back home at 11:30. I know that shouldn't sound late, but sadly it is late for us. We are becoming the couple that goes to bed a 10:00 pm. I never thought we would becoming these people until we had kids.

Now I'm just trying to kill time until he gets here. I've put everything in the car, went and got gas, and now maybe I'll read some of my book!

summer

Thursday, April 16, 2009

We are headed to Lafayette this weekend. We are coming to town for my friend, Ashley's, bridal shower. Mike hasn't been back since Christmas, so I'm sure he's ready to see everyone. We're excited to go back, it's always great to see everyone, but then again, we are always rushing around trying to hang out with everyone we can. It's always hard, because I know we won't get to see everyone.

On a sadder note, one of my parents cocker spaniels, Summer, was put to sleep yesterday. :( She had been having problems with her kidneys, and just wasn't improving. She always took a special liking to Mike; we called him her boyfriend. It will be weird going to my parents house and her not being there.

easter weekend

Friday, April 10, 2009

I'm off this weekend! I'm very excited, even though we don't have any plans set in stone. We are thinking of going to Sawyer Creek, which is just right down the road from our house. We are not going for the fun park, we want to go because there is a wine and gift shop. I really want to find a local wine to go with Easter dinner.

Speaking of Easter, this will be Mike and my's first holiday, just the two of us. It makes me feel more like our own family. Don't get me wrong, I love spending the holidays with our families and friends. I'm making a honey glazed ham, which is the smallest ham I've ever seen, but we don't want tons of leftovers.

This next part is completely not related to Easter. I was at work a couple of days ago, and was talking to a couple of my co-workers. I told them that I thought one of your supervisor looked similar to MacGyver, and both of them looked at me like I just made up a new word or something. They BOTH didn't know who MacGyver was. Who doesn't know who MacGyver is!?!?!?! They are not much younger than me, 20 and 22, but it felt like a 10 year age gap. I knew this stuff would happen, but I felt like it would happen when I'm 30 or 35. Not a mere 3 weeks before my 24th birthday. With this happening so close to my birthday, it really put me in check to how old I really am. I know I'm old old, but I'm no longer really young either.

Happy Good Friday to everyone, and I hope you have a wonderful Easter Celebration!

gas station from the past

Friday, April 3, 2009

Well, this week hasn't really been the most exciting, hence the lack of blogging.

But something did happen this morning that made my day, I went to a full service gas station on accident. :) It was so nice to just sit in my car while someone else did the work. I didn't really think there were any of these places left, I had never been to one before. But I think I'm going to start going there when Mike's not with me. P.S. It's free!! (the service....not the gas)
